Former 100m world champion Kerley banned for two years

Former world 100m champion Fred Kerley has been banned for two years due to anti-doping whereabouts failures. A tribunal found Kerley negligent for missing three anti-doping tests between May and December 2024. As a result, he was provisionally suspended in August 2025, missing the World Championships in Tokyo. His ban will last until August 2027, and his results from December 2024 to August 2025 have been disqualified. Kerley must also pay £3,000 in legal fees. The World Anti-Doping Code prohibits missing three tests within a year. Despite blaming technical issues and a Doping Control Officer for missed tests, Kerley did not dispute one failure. The Athletics Integrity Unit emphasized the importance of whereabouts rules for maintaining sport integrity. Kerley, a decorated athlete, may appeal the decision. This case highlights the critical role of anti-doping regulations in ensuring fair competition. QUESTION: How might strict enforcement of anti-doping rules impact the future of competitive sports and athletes’ careers?
