FBI, IRS to probe nonprofit groups for domestic terrorism links, sources say

FBI and IRS agents are collaborating to investigate nonprofit organizations for potential links to domestic terrorism, focusing on groups associated with the anti-fascist antifa movement and other extremist ideologies. This initiative follows a directive from Attorney General Pam Bondi, who emphasized targeting groups that use violence to push political agendas, including those opposing law enforcement and promoting radical views. The investigation will explore possible tax crimes and funding sources for these groups. A new command center at the FBI will lead the effort, with IRS agents temporarily assigned to assist. The FBI is tasked with identifying groups that may engage in domestic terrorism, defined as acts dangerous to human life intended to intimidate or influence government policy. Although domestic terrorism is defined by law, there is no specific criminal charge for it, so related crimes are prosecuted with terrorism enhancements. This initiative stems from a broader government focus on domestic terrorism following an executive order by President Trump. QUESTION: How might the increased scrutiny of nonprofit organizations impact their ability to operate and serve their communities?
