Planned Parenthood chapter settles with EEOC over treatment of white employees

Planned Parenthood of Illinois has agreed to pay $500,000 to settle a government investigation into discrimination claims related to its diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts. The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) found that the organization violated civil rights laws by segregating employees by race and harassing white employees. The investigation revealed that employees were required to attend racially segregated meetings and DEI training sessions that included derogatory statements about white employees. Planned Parenthood of Illinois acknowledged the settlement but did not confirm the investigation’s details. This case highlights the legal risks organizations face when implementing DEI programs that may inadvertently discriminate against certain groups. QUESTION: How might organizations balance promoting diversity and inclusion while ensuring they do not unintentionally discriminate against any group?
