What ACA enrollees are cutting back on to afford health care, according to a new poll

Priscilla Brown, a truck dispatcher from Orlando, Florida, is struggling to afford her Type 2 diabetes medication due to rising health care costs. Like many Americans, she is facing higher expenses after the expiration of enhanced tax credits that helped lower insurance premiums. A survey by the nonprofit KFF found that 8 in 10 people with Affordable Care Act (ACA) coverage are experiencing increased costs, leading many to cut back on essentials like food. The situation worsened when Congress couldn’t agree on extending COVID-era subsidies, affecting 23 million ACA enrollees. Many are now worried about affording emergency care and medications, with some switching to cheaper plans or dropping coverage altogether.
