Quadruple amputee cornhole player accused of murder in Maryland

Dayton James Webber, a 27-year-old professional cornhole player and quadruple amputee, was arrested and charged with murder in Maryland. Authorities found Webber in Virginia after Bradrick Michael Wells, also 27, was discovered shot to death in a yard in Charlotte Hall, Maryland. Witnesses reported that Webber, during an argument, allegedly shot Wells, who was a passenger in his car. Webber then fled the scene with Wells’ body still in the vehicle. After a resident reported finding the body, police obtained a warrant for Webber’s arrest. He was located at a hospital in Virginia and is awaiting extradition to Maryland to face charges, including first-degree murder. Webber, known for competing in the American Cornhole League, became a quadruple amputee due to a bacterial infection as a child. The League expressed its concern over the incident, highlighting its seriousness and the impact on those involved. QUESTION: How might the involvement of a professional athlete in a serious crime affect public perception of the sport they represent?
