Wife of Hawaii doctor takes stand 1 year after he allegedly tried to kill her

Arielle Konig testified against her husband, Gerhardt Konig, an anesthesiologist, accusing him of attempting to murder her by pushing her off a cliff during a hike in Hawaii. The incident allegedly occurred after Arielle refused to take a selfie near the cliff’s edge. Arielle described how Gerhardt tried to stab her with a syringe and then attacked her with a rock. A nurse, Sarah Bucksbom, witnessed the attack and called 911. Gerhardt’s defense claims Arielle attacked him first, and he acted in self-defense. The prosecution argues that Gerhardt’s call to his son after the incident was a confession. Gerhardt faces charges of second-degree attempted murder and could be sentenced to life in prison if convicted. The trial continues, with uncertainty about whether Gerhardt or his son will testify. QUESTION: How might witnessing or experiencing such a traumatic event impact someone’s mental health and relationships in the long term?
