BBC journalist caught in travel chaos at Houston Airport

Travellers across the United States are experiencing significant delays at airports due to a shortage of Transportation Security Administration (TSA) agents. This shortage is a result of many agents quitting or calling out of work because they are not receiving paychecks during a partial government shutdown. BBC journalist Christal Hayes, returning from her honeymoon, reported wait times exceeding four hours at Houston Airport. To manage the situation, US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents were present for crowd control. In response, President Donald Trump announced plans to sign an executive order to ensure TSA agents are paid immediately, although the legal authority for such a move is uncertain. Meanwhile, the US Senate has passed a partial funding bill to pay TSA agents, but it still requires approval from the House of Representatives. QUESTION: How might prolonged airport delays and government shutdowns impact people’s trust in public services and their willingness to travel?
