Trump administration to shutter historic Border Road between US and Canada

The Trump administration has decided to close a nearly nine-mile stretch of road known as Border Road, which runs along the US-Canada border between Montana and Alberta, starting 1 July. This road has been used for informal crossings between farming communities for over 80 years. The closure is due to concerns about increased irregular migration and drug smuggling. Although the road is on the US side, it has been maintained by Alberta’s Warner County, which is now planning to build a replacement road for Canadians. The closure affects local residents who have long used the road to connect with neighbors and family across the border. The Alberta government is investing C$8 million to construct a new road, expected to be completed by summer. Locals express sadness over the closure, as it marks the end of an era of close cross-border community ties. QUESTION: How might the closure of Border Road impact the relationship between the communities on either side of the US-Canada border?
