Trump plans to attend Supreme Court arguments in birthright citizenship case

President Trump plans to visit the Supreme Court as it considers his executive order to end birthright citizenship, a key part of his immigration policy. This visit would mark the first time a sitting president has attended Supreme Court arguments. The executive order aims to prevent U.S.-born children of undocumented or temporary immigrants from automatically gaining citizenship, challenging the 14th Amendment’s Citizenship Clause. This clause has traditionally been interpreted to grant citizenship to nearly everyone born in the U.S., regardless of their parents’ status. The Supreme Court, with a 6-3 conservative majority, will now directly address the order’s constitutionality. A decision is expected by July. Previously, the court has ruled against some of Trump’s policies, leading to his criticism of the justices. QUESTION: How might changes to birthright citizenship impact the lives of children born in the United States to immigrant parents?
