Prince Harry sued by charity he co-founded in honor of Princess Diana

Prince Harry is facing a defamation lawsuit from Sentebale, a charity he co-founded in Africa to honor his late mother, Princess Diana. The lawsuit, filed in London’s High Court, accuses Harry and his friend Mark Dyer of either libel or slander following Harry’s resignation as a patron in 2025. Sentebale, which supports youths with HIV in southern Africa, claims that a negative media campaign has caused significant harm to the charity’s operations and reputation. Disagreements over fundraising strategies led to Harry and Prince Seeiso stepping down as patrons, citing irreparable relations with the board’s chair, Sophie Chandauka. Chandauka accused Harry of bullying and harassment, while the Charity Commission for England and Wales criticized both parties for publicly airing their disputes, which damaged the charity’s reputation. Despite the turmoil, the commission found no evidence of widespread bullying or misogyny within Sentebale. QUESTION: How might public disputes within charitable organizations impact their ability to fulfill their missions and maintain donor trust?
