Trump admin agrees to fly pride flag at Stonewall National Monument

The Trump administration has agreed to fly the rainbow pride flag at the Stonewall National Monument in New York City after its removal by the National Park Service (NPS) was contested in a lawsuit by LGBTQ+ advocacy groups. The Department of the Interior, which oversees NPS, reached a resolution with the Gilbert Baker Foundation and other groups, allowing the pride flag to be displayed alongside the American and NPS flags. The monument, dedicated to LGBTQ+ rights in 2016, had its pride flag removed in February, sparking criticism and a rally where advocates installed their own flag. The Gilbert Baker Foundation celebrated the decision, emphasizing the flag’s significance as a symbol of hope and equality. The monument is near the historic Stonewall Inn, a pivotal site in the LGBTQ+ rights movement. QUESTION: Why do you think symbols like the pride flag are important in representing social movements and their history?
