Caine warns “we will use force” if Iran does not comply with blockade

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Gen. Dan Caine announced that U.S. forces are prepared to use force against any ships that defy the blockade in the Strait of Hormuz, despite a temporary ceasefire in the conflict with Iran. The blockade, which began on Monday, aims to restrict Iran’s control over the strait, a crucial passage for global oil transport. Hegseth emphasized the U.S. military’s readiness to escalate to major combat operations if necessary, under President Trump’s directive to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. The blockade applies to all ships entering or leaving Iranian ports, and so far, several ships have turned back without incident. The ceasefire has led to negotiations, but no agreement has been reached, particularly concerning Iran’s nuclear program. Meanwhile, tensions remain high as Iran threatens to retaliate by targeting American ships and closing the Red Sea. President Trump has indicated that further talks may occur soon, while Israel continues military actions against Hezbollah, with Lebanon excluded from the ceasefire. QUESTION: How might the ongoing tensions and military actions in the Strait of Hormuz impact global oil prices and international relations?
