Latest effort to rein in Trump on Iran falls short in House vote

The House narrowly failed to pass a resolution to limit President Trump’s military actions against Iran, as the conflict nears its third month. The resolution, proposed by Democratic Rep. Gregory Meeks, was defeated by a 213 to 214 vote, with one member voting present. Only one Republican joined the Democrats in support. This vote reflects ongoing congressional tension over the president’s authority, especially after Trump’s recent threats against Iran’s infrastructure. Despite a brief ceasefire, peace talks have stalled, and the U.S. has blockaded Iranian ports. Some Republicans have expressed discomfort with Trump’s aggressive stance but have not shifted their votes significantly. The resolution aimed to require congressional approval for further military engagement. As the statutory 60-day deadline approaches, some Republicans may reconsider their positions if the conflict continues without a clear exit strategy. QUESTION: How might the ongoing conflict between the U.S. and Iran impact global relations and the future of international diplomacy?
