5 injured, one critically, in shooting near University of Iowa campus, officials say

Early Sunday morning, a shooting occurred on a pedestrian mall near the University of Iowa campus in downtown Iowa City, injuring at least three students. The incident followed a large fight that broke out around 1:46 a.m., according to Iowa City police. Officers arriving at the scene heard gunfire and confirmed multiple victims, who were taken to local hospitals. University President Barb Wilson expressed concern for the injured students and their families, while Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds offered state resources to assist with the investigation. Videos showed people fleeing as shots were fired, but no arrests have been made yet. The community is urged to avoid the area as the investigation continues. QUESTION: How might witnessing or experiencing such events impact students’ sense of safety and community on campus?
