A humanoid robot sprints past the human half-marathon world record in Beijing race

A humanoid robot from the Chinese smartphone maker Honor made headlines by winning a half-marathon for robots in Beijing, completing the 21-kilometer race in just 50 minutes and 26 seconds. This time surpassed the human world record set by Uganda’s Jacob Kiplimo, who ran the same distance in about 57 minutes. The event, held alongside a human race, showcased China’s technological advancements, with robots demonstrating impressive speed and agility. Despite some technical hiccups, such as robots falling or crashing, the event highlighted the potential for future applications of these technologies in various industries. Spectators were amazed by the robots’ performance, signaling a possible new era where machines might outperform humans in certain tasks. Approximately 40% of the robots navigated the course autonomously, while others were remotely controlled, indicating significant progress in robotics. QUESTION: How might the development of humanoid robots that can outperform humans in physical tasks impact the future of sports and other industries?
