Blue Origin rocket grounded after satellite ‘mishap’

Blue Origin’s New Glenn rocket has been grounded following a failed satellite launch, prompting an investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The rocket, owned by Jeff Bezos’ company, was unable to place a satellite from AST SpaceMobile into the intended orbit due to insufficient engine thrust. This mishap led to a drop in AST SpaceMobile’s share price and rendered the satellite unusable, though it is covered by insurance. Blue Origin’s CEO, Dave Limp, acknowledged the failure and emphasized the importance of learning from the incident to resume operations swiftly. The FAA will oversee the investigation and determine when the New Glenn can fly again. This setback comes as Blue Origin and Amazon, which recently acquired a satellite firm, aim to compete with Elon Musk’s Starlink in providing global internet connectivity through satellite networks. QUESTION: How might the competition between companies like Blue Origin, Amazon, and SpaceX to provide satellite-based internet impact global communication and technology access in the future?
