UPS, FedEx and DHL file for tariff refunds. What it means for consumers.

Major shipping companies like UPS, FedEx, and DHL are seeking tariff refunds from U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) after the Supreme Court ruled that tariffs imposed under the Trump administration’s International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) were illegal. These companies have committed to returning the refunded money to customers who initially paid the tariffs. The CBP has launched a portal for businesses to request these refunds, but only the importer of record can file claims, not individual consumers. UPS, FedEx, and DHL have all stated their plans to reimburse customers once they receive the funds from CBP, which is expected to process refunds within 60 to 90 days of claim approval. Former President Trump suggested he might favor companies that choose not to seek refunds, despite the court’s ruling. This situation highlights the ongoing impact of past trade policies on businesses and consumers. QUESTION: How might the decision to seek or not seek tariff refunds influence a company’s reputation and customer loyalty?
