78-year-old woman dies from snake bites

A 78-year-old woman in Northern California died after being bitten three times by a venomous snake while walking in a rural area of Redwood Valley. This incident, which occurred on April 8, marks the third fatal snake bite in California this year. Despite receiving treatment at a hospital, she passed away on April 10. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, while thousands of people are bitten by venomous snakes annually in the U.S., only about five die from such bites. Earlier this year, a 25-year-old man and a 46-year-old woman also died from rattlesnake bites in Southern California. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife notes that snake bites are most common from April to October, which is peak rattlesnake season. QUESTION: What precautions can people take to stay safe during peak rattlesnake season?
