Iran’s military more capable than Trump admin. is acknowledging, sources say

The Islamic Republic of Iran retains more military capabilities than publicly acknowledged by the White House or Pentagon, according to U.S. officials. Despite a ceasefire in early April, about half of Iran’s ballistic missiles and launch systems remain intact, and 60% of the naval arm of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, including fast-attack boats, is still operational. Iranian gunboats recently attacked commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz, following President Trump’s extension of the ceasefire for peace talks. Although Iran’s air power has been significantly reduced, two-thirds of its air force is still functional after a U.S. and Israeli campaign targeting military facilities. President Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth have claimed that Operation Epic Fury has largely destroyed Iran’s military capacity. However, the IRGC’s naval forces continue to disrupt oil shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. Marine Lt. Gen. James Adams noted that Iran still possesses thousands of missiles and UAVs capable of threatening U.S. and allied forces. Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell described the war as a success, with significant Iranian losses. QUESTION: How might the ongoing military tensions between the U.S. and Iran impact global oil markets and international relations?
