Southern US wildfires force residents to flee, leaving them unsure if their homes are standing

Wildfires in Georgia and Florida have forced hundreds to evacuate, leaving many worried about their homes and animals. The fires, fueled by strong winds and low humidity during an extreme drought, have destroyed over 50 homes in southern Georgia. Smoke has spread across the Southeast, prompting air quality warnings. The Brantley County fire near Georgia’s coast has caused significant damage, while another large fire east of Valdosta has grown to cover 47 square miles. Firefighters are battling numerous smaller blazes, with debris from Hurricane Helene contributing to the fire risk. The situation remains unstable due to unpredictable winds, and the fires continue to pose a threat to rural communities. QUESTION: How might the increasing frequency of wildfires impact the way communities in the Southeast prepare for and respond to natural disasters in the future?
