A massive, unstable ice block stalls Everest climbers at base camp

A large and unstable ice block on Mount Everest has halted the progress of hundreds of climbers and their guides, who are waiting at the base camp. This ice block, known as a serac, is located between the base camp and Camp One and poses a significant risk due to its instability. Officials are collaborating with climbers and expedition organizers to evaluate the situation. The Sagarmatha Pollution Control Committee plans to conduct an aerial survey to assess the serac, hoping it will melt to a safer level. The Khumbu Icefall, where the serac is located, is notoriously dangerous, with a history of deadly avalanches. Despite these challenges, many climbers are eager to attempt the ascent during the brief windows of favorable weather in the spring climbing season. QUESTION: How might the increasing risks associated with climbing Mount Everest influence future decisions about who should be allowed to attempt the climb?
