Oklahoma tornado destroys homes, forces Air Force base to close

A powerful tornado struck Enid, Oklahoma, on Thursday, causing significant damage by tearing roofs off buildings, destroying homes, and downing power poles. The tornado, confirmed by the National Weather Service, affected the city of about 50,000 people in Garfield County. Despite the destruction, there were no immediate reports of fatalities, and only minor injuries were reported. Authorities conducted door-to-door checks to ensure residents’ safety. Vance Air Force Base in Enid was closed due to power and water restoration efforts, with only essential personnel required to report for duty. The Oakwood Christian Church opened as a shelter for those affected. Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt urged prayers for the impacted community. QUESTION: How might communities better prepare for and respond to natural disasters like tornadoes to minimize damage and ensure safety?
