Another strike on alleged drug boat kills 3 in eastern Pacific, military says

The U.S. military conducted a strike on a boat in the eastern Pacific Ocean, resulting in the deaths of three individuals, as part of an ongoing campaign against alleged drug-trafficking vessels. This initiative, which began in September under the Trump administration, has led to the destruction of numerous boats in Latin American waters, with at least 186 fatalities reported. Despite the lack of evidence provided by the military to confirm the presence of drugs on these vessels, the operations continue, targeting routes known for smuggling activities. The campaign coincides with a significant U.S. military buildup in the region and follows the capture of former Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro on drug trafficking charges. President Trump has described the situation as an “armed conflict” with Latin American cartels, justifying the strikes as necessary to curb drug flow into the U.S. However, the legality of these actions has been questioned by critics. QUESTION: How might the ongoing military strikes in Latin American waters impact international relations between the U.S. and countries in the region?
