DC shooting prompts alarm about threat posed by attackers crossing state lines

Following an alleged assassination attempt on President Donald Trump at the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner, federal officials have warned against traveling to Washington, D.C., with intentions of causing violence. U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro, appointed in May 2025, has investigated multiple incidents of suspects traveling long distances to commit politically motivated violence. The latest incident involved Cole Allen, who traveled from Southern California to Washington, D.C., with weapons, and was arrested after firing near the event venue. Authorities emphasize the seriousness of such actions and the intent to prosecute offenders. Retired FBI agent Brad Garrett suggests that suspects travel to transport weapons more easily and to mentally prepare for their actions. This issue is not isolated to Washington, D.C., as similar incidents have occurred elsewhere. QUESTION: Why do you think some individuals are willing to travel long distances to commit acts of violence, and how might this impact the safety and security of public events?
