In real-world test, an AI model did better than doctors at diagnosing patients

Researchers from Harvard Medical School and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center have found that an AI model developed by OpenAI can outperform doctors in diagnosing patients and managing their care. In a study published in the journal Science, the AI model was tested against experienced physicians using real-world data from emergency department cases, including a patient with a pulmonary embolism whose condition was accurately diagnosed by the AI as being related to lupus. The AI model excelled in providing accurate diagnoses at various stages of patient care, often surpassing the performance of doctors. While the AI relied solely on text data, the study highlights the significant advancements in AI technology and its potential impact on healthcare. QUESTION: How might the increasing use of AI in healthcare change the role of doctors in the future?
