Judge blocks Trump from ending deportation protections for Yemenis

A federal judge has temporarily blocked the Trump administration’s attempt to end Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for over 2,800 Yemeni nationals living in the U.S. Judge Dale Ho ruled that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) likely acted unlawfully by not following the required process before deciding to terminate TPS for Yemen. This decision came after 16 Yemeni nationals challenged the move, arguing that the conditions in Yemen remain unsafe due to ongoing conflict and humanitarian crises. Yemen was first granted TPS in 2015, and the status has been renewed multiple times, including during the Trump administration. Despite a State Department advisory warning against travel to Yemen, former Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced the end of TPS, claiming it was against national interest. The judge’s ruling halts the termination, allowing Yemeni nationals to remain in the U.S. while the lawsuit continues. QUESTION: How might the continuation or termination of TPS for Yemeni nationals impact their communities in the United States?
