Police officers hailed as heroes after New York house explosion

The New York Police Department praised several officers as heroes after they responded to a domestic incident in Queens that escalated into a house explosion. The officers were called to an Ozone Park home by a woman whose estranged husband, allegedly intoxicated and armed with a knife, had forced his way inside. Upon arrival, the officers detected a gas odor, and shortly after entering, a fiery explosion occurred, knocking them down. Despite the danger, the officers quickly rescued a child from the home. The suspect’s body was later found in the rubble. Seven officers and several others nearby were treated for minor injuries. The cause of the explosion is still under investigation.
