Shakira draws 2 million spectators in free concert on Copacabana Beach

Colombian superstar Shakira performed a free concert on Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro, drawing an estimated 2 million people. The event was part of her “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran” world tour, named after her 2024 album. Shakira’s performance followed similar large-scale shows by Madonna and Lady Gaga in previous years. The concert began with skywriting drones displaying “I love you Brazil” in Portuguese, and Shakira reminisced about her first visit to Brazil at age 18. She performed hits like “Hips Don’t Lie” and “La Tortura,” and celebrated women’s resilience, stating, “Us women, every time we fall we get up a little wiser.” Rio’s mayor praised the event, highlighting Shakira’s longstanding connection with Brazil. Fans, like Erica Monteiro, expressed pride in Shakira’s representation of Latino strength, while others noted the concert’s role in affirming Brazil’s Latino identity. QUESTION: How might Shakira’s celebration of women’s resilience during her concert inspire young people today?
