UCLA women sweep Stanford to win third beach volleyball championship

UCLA’s beach volleyball team claimed their third NCAA championship by defeating top-seeded Stanford 3-0. Sally Perez and Maggie Boyd secured the decisive victory, marking UCLA’s first title since their consecutive wins in 2018 and 2019. The Bruins, ranked third, began their winning streak with Kaley Mathews and Ensley Alden’s triumph, followed by Ava Williamson and Jesse Dueck’s close match victory. Other UCLA pairs were also leading when their matches became unnecessary. This championship was a first for UCLA’s coach Jenny Johnson Jordan, who took over in 2023. Stanford, seeking its first title, reached the finals after defeating Florida State. UCLA advanced by overcoming Texas. Southern California has dominated the championships since 2016, with TCU breaking their streak last year. QUESTION: How might UCLA’s victory inspire other teams and athletes in college sports?
