U.K. counter-terror police investigate arson at ex-London synagogue

British counter-terror police are investigating an arson attack on a former synagogue in east London, which is part of a series of antisemitic incidents in the city. Surveillance footage confirmed the fire was set intentionally, though no injuries or arrests have been reported. This attack follows recent violence, including the stabbing of two Jewish men and other targeted attacks on Jewish sites since March. Prime Minister Keir Starmer met with community leaders and officials to address the rise in antisemitic violence, suggesting a possible foreign influence, specifically from a group linked to Iran. The group, Harakat Ashab al-Yamin al-Islamia, has claimed responsibility for these and other attacks across Europe. Starmer warned of consequences if Iran is found responsible and plans to expedite legislation against such threats. The former synagogue, though not in use for years, symbolizes the ongoing threat to Jewish communities in London. QUESTION: How might the rise in antisemitic attacks in London influence the way communities and governments address hate crimes in the future?
