Principal who tackled gunman says he didn’t initially know he was shot

Kirk Moore, the principal of Pauls Valley High School in Oklahoma, became a hero when he tackled a gunman who entered the school last month. Moore, 60, acted on instinct when he confronted Victor Hawkins, a 20-year-old former student, after hearing gunshots near his office. Despite being shot, Moore’s quick actions ensured no students or faculty were harmed. He later realized he was injured when he felt blood. Moore has received widespread support, including thank you letters from around the world and donations to a fund he established for graduates. Companies have contributed $50,000 to this fund, which will provide graduation gifts to students. Hawkins was arrested and faces multiple charges, including shooting with intent to kill. Moore’s bravery has been recognized by the community, with students crowning him prom king and a GoFundMe page raising over $20,000 in his honor. QUESTION: How might Kirk Moore’s actions inspire students and educators to approach school safety and emergency preparedness differently?
