The five quotients: what skills will matter most in the age of AI

For much of the 20th century, human potential was primarily assessed through IQ, or intelligence quotient, which measured analytical and technical skills. This focus on IQ led to the development of educational and professional systems that prioritized these abilities, opening doors for those who excelled in them. Schools and employers often used IQ as a key criterion for advancement and success. However, as our understanding of human capabilities has evolved, new metrics like EQ (emotional intelligence), TQ (technology quotient), WQ (wisdom quotient), and VQ (vision quotient) have emerged, highlighting the importance of diverse skills and attributes beyond traditional intelligence. These new measures suggest a broader view of human potential, emphasizing emotional understanding, technological proficiency, wisdom, and vision as crucial components of success in today’s world.
