Ex-UK political aide and Biden cabinet secretary lead California governor primary vote count

The California governor’s race is still undecided following the primary vote, with Steve Hilton, a former UK political aide, and Xavier Becerra, a former Biden cabinet secretary, leading the pack. The election results are delayed due to the high number of postal ballots. Becerra, a Democrat, has committed to opposing former President Trump, while Hilton, a Republican endorsed by Trump, aims to reduce taxes and regulations to make California more affordable. The race, which became the most expensive in California’s history, saw a crowded field of candidates, including billionaire climate activist Tom Steyer and former Democratic congresswoman Katie Porter. The contest was further complicated by the withdrawal of Democratic congressman Eric Swalwell amid allegations of sexual assault. Concerns arose that the vote could be split among Democrats, allowing two Republicans to advance in the liberal state. The primary system in California selects the top two candidates with the most votes, regardless of party affiliation. QUESTION: How might the outcome of this election impact the political landscape in California and beyond?
