Ford recalls nearly 420,000 vehicles over faulty seat belts

Ford Motor Company is recalling nearly 420,000 vehicles due to a seat belt issue that could increase the risk of injury for passengers. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced that certain Expedition and Lincoln models from 2018 to 2022 have seat belts that may lock unexpectedly, preventing them from retracting or extending properly. This defect could lead to seat belts failing to restrain occupants during a crash. Ford has reported one injury related to this issue and will notify affected vehicle owners by mail starting June 8. Dealers will inspect and replace the faulty seat belt retractors at no cost. Additionally, Ford issued a “Do Not Drive” warning for 4,653 Ford Maverick and Bronco Sport vehicles due to improperly assembled suspension systems, which could cause the control arm to disconnect from the front wheel knuckle. This recall affects some 2021-2026 Bronco Sport and 2022-2026 Maverick models. Owners are advised not to drive these vehicles until repairs are made, which will also be free of charge. QUESTION: How might these vehicle recalls influence consumer trust in Ford and other automakers?
