Shakira and Burna Boy to play in first of three World Cup opening ceremonies

Shakira and Burna Boy are set to perform in Mexico City for the first of three opening ceremonies at the World Cup, singing “Dai Dai,” the tournament’s official song, before the match between Mexico and South Africa. FIFA has organized opening ceremonies for each host nation, with additional events in the United States and Canada. The Mexico show will feature artists like Alejandro Fernández, Belinda, and J Balvin, with more performers to be announced for the U.S. and Canada. Alanis Morissette and Michael Bublé will headline in Toronto, while Katy Perry and others will perform in Los Angeles. These events are produced by Marco Balich, known for the Milan Cortina Winter Olympics ceremony. Shakira will also headline the World Cup final halftime show with Madonna and BTS. The song “Dai Dai” aims to raise $100 million for the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund. QUESTION: How might the inclusion of diverse musical acts from around the world at the World Cup opening ceremonies influence global perceptions of the event?
