Ex-boyfriend and fiancée behind fatal stabbing, shooting of Texas mom

In a tragic incident on October 2, 2020, 24-year-old Alyssa Burkett was brutally attacked at her workplace in Carrollton, Texas. Despite her fears, the assault came unexpectedly as she parked her car at the Greentree Apartments leasing office. A man in a black Ford Expedition parked beside her, shot her through the driver’s side window, and then stabbed her 44 times. Witnesses, including maintenance supervisor Darin Ickeler, described the horrific scene, noting the shooter’s rage. Although severely injured, Alyssa managed to exit her car and seek help, leaving a bloodied handprint on a nearby building. The assailant, described as a Black man, pursued her with a hunting knife, continuing the attack. This violent act shocked the community and highlighted the dangers Alyssa had feared. QUESTION: How might communities better support individuals who feel threatened or unsafe in their daily environments?
