Mom of American missing in Japan says they argued over ChatGPT

James “Weston” Higginbotham, a 20-year-old engineering student from Auburn University, has been missing in Japan since May 29, 2026. His disappearance followed a disagreement with his mother, Nancy Higginbotham, over her use of ChatGPT during their vacation. Weston, who is against AI due to its environmental impact, stayed behind while his family visited a temple in Kyoto. He was last seen leaving the Yamashina train station, and his parents suspect he went hiking on a nearby trail. Despite an extensive search by Japanese police, including 100 officers, K9 units, and helicopters, Weston has not been found. The family is now hiring a professional search and rescue team, determined to find him. They remain hopeful despite the challenges and costs involved. QUESTION: How might the increasing use of AI technology impact personal relationships and communication within families?
