Lifeguard helps save woman critically injured in Australia shark attack

An Australian lifeguard played a crucial role in rescuing a 35-year-old woman who was critically injured by a white shark while swimming at Coogee Beach in Sydney. The woman, who was swimming with friends about 100 feet from shore, suffered severe leg and arm injuries in the attack. Lifeguard Charlie Verco, who witnessed the incident from his paddleboard, managed to pull her towards the beach with the help of bystanders. An off-duty doctor at the scene applied tourniquets to her wounds before she was airlifted to a hospital in critical condition. This incident is part of a troubling trend, as Australia has seen several shark attacks in 2026, including fatal ones involving spearfishing divers and a young boy. The rise in shark attacks is linked to increased human activity in the ocean. QUESTION: How might the increase in shark attacks influence public attitudes towards ocean activities and conservation efforts?
