Police dress up as World Cup mascots to carry out drug sting

In a creative law enforcement operation in Lima, Peru, two police officers disguised as World Cup mascots Clutch and Maple successfully arrested a suspected drug dealer, Carlos Cabrera, during the opening match of the World Cup. The operation was part of a series of innovative tactics by the Peruvian police, who have previously used costumes of fictional characters to catch criminals without raising suspicion. The officers, dressed as a bald eagle and a moose, representing the United States and Canada respectively, used a sledgehammer to break down a door and apprehend Cabrera. During the raid, police found 2,524 packets of cocaine base and a gun. This approach highlights the police’s strategic use of disguise to combat drug trafficking, which carries significant penalties in Peru. QUESTION: How might the use of creative disguises by law enforcement impact public perception of police operations?
