Woman mauled by shark off Sydney beach grabs onto a lifeguard’s paddleboard

A woman was critically injured by a 3.5-meter shark while swimming off Coogee Beach in Sydney. The attack occurred at 11:15 a.m., leaving her with severe leg and arm injuries. Lifeguard Charlie Verco, who witnessed the attack, managed to reach her on his paddleboard and, with the help of bystanders, brought her to shore. An off-duty doctor applied tourniquets to her wounds before she was airlifted to a hospital in critical condition. This incident is part of a troubling trend, as Australia has seen an increase in shark attacks, with four fatalities this year alone. The rise in attacks is linked to the growing popularity of water activities and the country’s increasing population. QUESTION: How might the increase in shark attacks influence people’s attitudes towards ocean activities and conservation efforts?
