Trump and thousands of others watch UFC fight on White House lawn

President Donald Trump celebrated his 80th birthday and America’s 250th with a historic Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) event on the White House lawn. Thousands of fans, including UFC chief Dana White and notable guests like British boxer Tyson Fury, gathered to watch American fighter Justin Gaethje defeat Ilia Topuria for the lightweight championship. The event, delayed by an hour due to thunderstorms, marked the first professional sporting event at the presidential residence. The night featured 14 fights, with military planes flying overhead and Medal of Honor recipients escorting fighters to the stage. The UFC invested $60 million in the event, which was streamed on Paramount+. Trump praised the event as “the greatest show on Earth,” highlighting its significance for the UFC, a sport once criticized as “human cockfighting.” The event also coincided with Flag Day, adding to the celebratory atmosphere. QUESTION: How might hosting a major sporting event at the White House influence public perception of both the presidency and the sport involved?
