Wisconsin beagle farm closing, hundreds of dogs to be sent to Florida rescue group

A beagle breeding farm in Wisconsin, known as Ridglan Farms, is closing after facing violent protests. Big Dog Ranch Rescue, a Florida-based group, announced it will take in the farm’s remaining 475 beagles, distributing them to various rescue groups and its campuses in Florida and Alabama for adoption preparation. Earlier this year, the rescue group purchased 1,500 beagles from the farm. Ridglan Farms, located near Madison, agreed to close permanently and cease its breeding and research operations following legal issues related to animal mistreatment. The farm had been under pressure from activists who wanted the dogs adopted rather than used for research. The closure marks a significant shift in how these animals will be treated, focusing on their transition to new homes. QUESTION: How might the closure of facilities like Ridglan Farms influence the future of animal testing and research practices?
