Authorities say at least 9 dead, 25 hurt after a train and bus collide in Zimbabwe

In Zimbabwe, a tragic accident occurred when a freight train collided with a bus at a railway crossing in the town of Triangle, resulting in the deaths of at least nine people, including two children. The bus driver reportedly failed to stop and check for trains, leading to the crash. At least 25 others were injured and taken to the hospital. This incident follows other recent road tragedies in Zimbabwe, highlighting the country’s high rate of traffic accidents, often attributed to human error. Zimbabwe’s road safety agency reports frequent accidents, with an average of five fatalities daily. The United Nations notes that Africa has the highest road traffic fatality rate globally, despite having a small percentage of the world’s vehicles. QUESTION: What measures could be implemented to improve road safety and reduce accidents in countries like Zimbabwe?
