Williams sisters receive Wimbledon doubles wildcard

American tennis legends Serena and Venus Williams are set to make a return to Wimbledon, competing together in the women’s doubles after receiving a wildcard entry. Serena, 44, recently returned to the court at Queen’s, marking her comeback four years after her anticipated final match at the 2022 US Open. She has won 23 Grand Slam singles titles, including seven at Wimbledon. Meanwhile, Venus, 45, a five-time Wimbledon singles champion, has struggled in singles this season but achieved a doubles victory with Katie Boulter in Madrid. The Wimbledon tournament, starting on June 29, has also granted wildcards to several players, including Stan Wawrinka and Maja Chwalinska. The selection of wildcards is at the discretion of the Wimbledon committee, often based on past performances or to boost British interest. QUESTION: How might the return of Serena and Venus Williams to Wimbledon influence the perception of age and longevity in sports?
