Los Angeles warehouse fire prompts shelter-in-place orders due to hazardous air

A large fire broke out at a warehouse near downtown Los Angeles, causing thick black smoke to fill the sky and leading to shelter-in-place orders for nearby residents due to potential hazardous air. The fire started around 2:30 p.m. in the Boyle Heights area, and the warehouse’s roof, which was covered in solar panels, was engulfed in flames. Authorities warned of hazardous materials, advising people to stay indoors and close all windows and doors. Although there was initial concern about an ammonia line being affected, that risk was later dismissed. By late afternoon, the roof fire was under control, and firefighters began inspecting the building’s interior. The warehouse, owned by Lineage Logistics, is used for storing temperature-controlled goods. The company has not yet commented on the incident. QUESTION: How might the presence of solar panels on the warehouse roof have impacted the firefighting efforts and the potential risks involved?
