Suspect in custody after deadly shooting at Wilmington Hospital

A 23-year-old man named John Wallace-Bey was arrested in Philadelphia in connection with a shooting at Wilmington Hospital in Delaware, which resulted in one death and one injury. The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon, and both victims were 19 years old. Wilmington Police Chief Wilfredo Campos confirmed that the shooting was targeted and isolated. Wallace-Bey faces charges of first-degree murder, attempted murder, and multiple gun-related offenses. The hospital was temporarily on lockdown, and its emergency department diverted patients during the incident. ChristianaCare, which operates the hospital, is cooperating with law enforcement in the ongoing investigation. Brian Pfeffer, a hospital employee, described the shooting as terrifying and emphasized the need for action to address such violence. The event has deeply affected the community, with ChristianaCare’s incoming president expressing condolences to those impacted. QUESTION: How might incidents like this influence the way hospitals and other public spaces prepare for emergencies in the future?
