Tatis and Merrill combine for 4 RBIs as the Padres beat the Cardinals 6-1

The San Diego Padres defeated the St. Louis Cardinals 6-1, avoiding a series sweep. Fernando Tatis Jr. and Jackson Merrill each contributed significantly, driving in two runs and collecting three hits apiece. Tatis also stole a base and has been on a hot streak, hitting .354 over his last 11 games. Merrill capped his performance with a two-run homer in the ninth inning. Despite their victory, the Padres struggled with runners in scoring position, going 4 for 14 and leaving 10 on base. Griffin Canning pitched in relief, while Bradgley Rodriguez started the game for San Diego. The Cardinals’ Kyle Leahy took the loss, ending their six-game home winning streak. The Padres will face the Texas Rangers next, while the Cardinals will play the Kansas City Royals. QUESTION: How might the Padres’ recent struggles with runners in scoring position impact their performance in future games?
