Police charge a third suspect in a Melbourne synagogue arson allegedly directed by Iran

A third suspect has been charged in connection with an arson attack on a Melbourne synagogue, allegedly orchestrated by Iran. The 20-year-old man, already in custody for unrelated offenses, is accused of being one of three masked individuals who set fire to the Adass Israel Synagogue on December 6, 2024. The attack caused significant damage and injured a worshipper. The Victorian Joint Counter Terrorism Team, involving federal and state police, charged the man with arson. Two other suspects were previously arrested. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese accused Iran’s Revolutionary Guard of directing this and another antisemitic attack in Sydney. Iran denies the allegations, but its diplomats were expelled. Investigators are working with international partners to determine if the arsonists knew who ordered the attack. The Australian government has launched an inquiry into rising antisemitism. QUESTION: How might international relations be affected if countries are found to be involved in directing attacks on foreign soil?
