Trump unveils new Air Force One, a $400 million plane gifted by Qatar

The Air Force has introduced a new Air Force One, a Boeing 747-8, which was gifted by the Qatari government and is valued at $400 million. This aircraft, now stationed at Joint Base Andrews, will soon begin commissioning flights before officially transporting the president. The plane features a new red, white, and blue design and has undergone government modifications to ensure it meets the security and technological needs of the presidential mission. Despite these updates, the interior remains largely unchanged, maintaining its luxurious features. The Air Force has been preparing for this transition by training pilots and maintenance crews on a leased 747-8 and creating a mock-up of the interior for familiarization. Former President Trump, who recently returned from Europe on the older Air Force One, defended the acceptance of the Qatari plane, arguing it saves taxpayer money. This aircraft will be used until a new fleet is delivered in 2028. QUESTION: How might the acceptance of a foreign gift like the Qatari plane impact international relations and perceptions of the U.S. government?
