Coke and Pepsi rolling out QR codes linked to ingredient information

Major beverage companies, including Coca-Cola, Keurig Dr Pepper, and PepsiCo, will soon add QR codes to their soda packaging, allowing consumers to access detailed nutritional information online. The American Beverage Association announced that these QR codes will direct users to a website called “Good to Know,” which lists over 140 ingredients found in various beverages, providing definitions and global authorization details. While the site offers general ingredient information, specific ingredient breakdowns for each brand will still require checking the product label. Other brands like Celsius, Monster Energy, Polar Beverages, and Red Bull are also participating in this initiative. This move aligns with efforts by Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to reduce the consumption of sweetened drinks as part of his Make America Healthy Again campaign. The initiative aims to enhance transparency and consumer confidence in beverage safety, supported by assessments from global food safety agencies. QUESTION: How might increased transparency in beverage ingredients influence consumer choices and health awareness among young people?
